Lanzarote

Lanzarote is the fourth largest of the Canary Islands. The capital is Arrecife and lies in the east. The former capital is Teguise and is north of Arrecife.

My stay in Lanzarote did not last long as I was not traveling for work. Still, I am totally excited about the island. I spent some wonderful days and the vacation was unforgettable. Lanzarote is my absolute favorite among the Canaries. As on La Palma, the colors of nature and the contrast to each other are very impressive. The white houses typical of the island also form a strong contrast to the black lava. Both locals and tourists (British tourists) are particularly nice on Lanzarote.

The ferry crossing from Fuerteventura to the port of Playa Blanca Lanzarote takes about 30 minutes. Playa Blanca is a popular vacation spot in the south. From here public buses run regularly to Puerto del Carmen and other places on the island.

The best known and most important resort is Puerto del Carmen, a former fishing village in the southeast of the island. There is a wide range of activities here, such as various water sports, diving, cycling tours, bus and boat trips and much more. The beach promenade Avenida de las Playas is approx. 10 km long and offers a wonderful view of the blue sea during a walk. The night life is very lively with many bars and clubs. The old town of Punta Tinosa with an idyllic fishing port is also a must-see.

The highest mountain is Peñas del Chache with 672 meters and is located in the north. The second largest town, Playa Honda, is located between the capital and the airport and has a wonderful long beach. Playa Honda is the perfect place for a quiet and relaxing vacation.

The Carnival in the Canary Islands is celebrated big. The carnival festival could take place at the end of February 2020 before the corona restrictions were initiated. It was nice to witness the colorful celebration in the capital Arrecife, although I'm not a fan of carnival. If you are on the island at this time of year, you should be there and celebrate.
